How the firm came to be
sumerisxxad was established by practitioners who spent their earlier careers in larger commercial practices in Kuala Lumpur, handling a range of litigation matters for corporate and mid-market clients. What became clear over time was that many businesses — particularly those encountering a significant dispute for the first time — needed something different from what large firm structures naturally provide: a smaller team, a consistent contact, and advice that is calibrated to their situation rather than to a standard retainer model.
The practice was built around that observation. sumerisxxad works with a limited number of clients at any given time, which allows for the attention each matter deserves. Engagements are structured and priced clearly at the outset, and clients receive written updates at every meaningful stage.
We are based in Wisma UOA II, Jalan Pinang, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur's commercial district — close to the courts and the businesses we serve.
Our approach to dispute work
Commercial disputes carry real cost — not just in fees, but in management time, distraction, and uncertainty. Our starting point is always to give the client an honest assessment of where they stand. That means acknowledging the weaker aspects of a position as clearly as the stronger ones.
We do not regard going to court as the natural endpoint of every engagement. Settlement and mediation are kept in view throughout the lifecycle of a matter, and we raise them candidly with clients when the circumstances suggest they are worth considering.
Where litigation does proceed, we manage it carefully: written updates, clear communication before each stage, and no expenditure that has not been discussed and agreed in advance.

Called to the Malaysian Bar, Ravindan has practised commercial litigation for over fourteen years, with a focus on High Court matters involving contractual disputes and corporate recovery.
Nadia Zulaikha
Senior Associate
Nadia handles pleadings, interlocutory applications, and pre-litigation advisory work. She has particular experience with supply chain and receivables disputes across the Klang Valley.
Chong Kai Wen
Associate, Dispute Management
Kai Wen supports portfolio engagements, matter tracking, and client reporting. He coordinates the administrative and procedural aspects of multi-matter programmes.

Malaysian Bar Membership
All fee earners at sumerisxxad hold current practising certificates issued by the Malaysian Bar. Our work is conducted within the framework of the Legal Profession Act 1976 and the Bar's professional conduct rules.
Client Confidentiality
Solicitor-client privilege is maintained as a matter of professional obligation. Information disclosed to us in the course of an engagement is not shared without explicit instruction from the client.
Written Engagement Terms
Every engagement is documented with a written scope, fee arrangement, and terms of reference before work begins. Clients are not asked to authorise expenditure that has not been explained in writing.
Regular Written Updates
Clients receive written updates at each procedural stage of a matter. We do not leave clients uninformed for extended periods, even when a matter is in a quiet phase between hearings or filings.
Conflict of Interest Protocols
We conduct conflict checks at the point of initial enquiry. Where a conflict exists, we inform the prospective client promptly rather than proceeding with the engagement.
Data Protection Compliance
Client information and case materials are handled in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia). Digital files are stored with access controls, and physical documents are secured appropriately.

The practice is based in Kuala Lumpur, within reach of the commercial courts, and advises clients across Peninsular Malaysia.
The work divides broadly into three areas. Pre-litigation advisory engagements assist businesses in understanding a dispute before any formal step is taken — this includes contract review, position assessment, and drafting of correspondence. Litigation engagements cover the full conduct of proceedings from filing through to trial, with regular written reporting throughout. Portfolio engagements serve businesses with a number of disputes running concurrently, providing a structured overview, prioritisation by recovery prospects, and quarterly board-level reporting.
The firm's approach to commercial disputes is one of measured engagement. We do not encourage proceedings where negotiation or mediation offers a more proportionate path. Where a matter does proceed to court, it is managed with care and transparency — clients know what each stage involves before it arrives, and costs are not incurred without prior agreement.
